And if you don’t speak Spanish, the Google Translate app now lets you translate any app content into English. The website and apps also work as a comparison website allowing you to check the best prices for flights all over the world. They browse the best flights and travel websites to give you the information. Eltenedor (www.eltenedor.es) ­ – a Spanish guide to the best restaurants in Spain.

You will need to speak and understand a little bit of Spanish to use the app. There is a review section where each restaurant gets a rating out of 10 and you can also check how many people have reviewed it. You can select the restaurant depending on what you would like to eat, the number of people joining you (very good if you are travelling with a large group of people), the date and the time.

City Maps 2 Go (www.ulmon.com) – more than 7,000 maps available to download

The app allows you to download maps of your holiday destination. The maps are very accurate and will help you locate nearby hotels, restaurants, museums and more. There is an option which allows you to bookmark your favourite places. Unlike Google Maps, you won’t get directions but it is still very useful as you can download the maps before leaving and use them in the country without having to pay for roaming services.

Use Duolingo before going on holiday or even while you are on holiday to improve your Spanish and communicate with the locals. Google translate is a quick fix to get a translation from Spanish to English if you don’t have time to get to grip with the lingo.  It is very easy to use, just hold your phone camera in front of the words you need to translate, for example a sign or a menu item, and Google will translate it for you. You can save the translation for future use too, and you can download language packages so the app works even with no internet connection.

It is very easy to use and will be great when visiting the Spanish national parks. You just need to take a picture of the leaf in question, the app will identify it and you will get a lot of information about it.

The app allows you to enter your skin type, location (ie full sun, shade…) and it will tell you when you have had too much sun, when to reapply lotion and seek shade.
