The holy week is celebrated all over Spain

Since heading back to work in January, most of us have been longing for a Spring break. Luckily this year, Easter is early and if you don’t fancy eggs hunt in the UK, then Spain is the perfect place for a Easter break.

Below are 5 good reasons: the mountains, where skiing is still possible, the nice weather in the south of Spain, to tickle your taste buds with Spanish food and wine, or discover new sights and soak up the culture with the museums and the Spanish Easter celebrations.

    1. Experience the Semana Santa (Holy week) in Seville: the Semana Santa processions from the Cofradías (religious brotherhoods) are one of the religious highlights of the year with the April Fair two weeks later. You will witness enormous pasos (floats) being carried in the streets. They are heavy religious work of art that can weight up to 2000 kilos. The penitents are dressed in capes and pointy hats, hiding their identity. The processions can take hours and attract big crowds but are not to be missed if you want to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture.

Find your Easter holiday cottages in Andalucía with Bungalows.com.

    2. Skiing and snowboarding in the mountains: the Sierra Nevada (snowy range in Spanish) is located in the region of Andalucía. It is the second highest mountain range after the Alps and its high peaks make skiing possible. The popular Sierra Nevada mountain resort has 106.8 km of marked slopes and welcome different levels of skiers with the green runs (very easy), blue runs (easy), red runs (difficult) and black runs (very difficult). The top station is at 3,300m with the Veleta peak at 3,398m.

Visit Bungalowsclub.com to check the accommodation options available next to the Sierra Nevada ski resort.

    3. Water sports and farniente on the Spanish beaches: if skiing and snow doesn’t appeal to you, than head to the beaches of Andalucía. The Mediterranean climate with 300 days of sunshine and warm temperatures is perfect for relaxing on the beach or practicing water sports. You might not get July’s 28 degrees at Easter time, but the chances are that it will be warmer than the West Wittering beach in West Sussex. Andalucía is known as the mecca for water sports. The most popular are sailing, surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing.

You can find your perfect holiday cottage on the Bungalowsclub.com website.

    4. Spanish gastronomy and wines: La Rioja is a Spanish region located in the upper half of Spain, in the Iberian mountain range. It is famous for its red wine and food culture. It is a beautiful region, with a wealth of fresh produces and traditional Spanish dishes. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes to enjoy. You will get to taste the famous tapas, but also discover other tasty dishes such as the Piquillo Peppers, the Esparragos Blancos (white asparagus) or the Patatas a la Riojana (potatoes roasted with Chorizo and smoky paprika). The Rioja has hundreds of wineries all worth visiting. If you only have a couple days, then it is a good idea to visit at least one traditional winery and a more modern one, to understand fully the history of wine-making and its modern challenges.

Bungalowsclub has a nice selection of cottages and cabins to accommodate you during your Easter break in the Rioja region.

    5. Visit some of the best museums in Spain : The Prado in Madrid welcomes around 2.3 million visitors each year…It will still be busy during Easter, but less than during the peak summer season. The Prado has some of the best collections of European art from the 12th century to early 19th You will get to see the works of Francisco de Goya, Diego Velázquez,El Greco, Titian, Peter Paul Rubens. Other top galleries and museums include the Centro de Arte Reina, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.

  • Tips to get a cheaper holiday in Spain

Tips to get a cheaper holiday in Spain

tips holidays spainAs winter draws to a close and days are getting longer, dreams of a holiday in the sun are lingering But don’t delay booking this well-deserved holiday as the high season is already starting in the southern countries of Europe. And consequently prices are starting to rise. With careful planning and some research, you can still get a great holiday at a reasonable price.

Here are a few tips to help you save when booking your next dream holiday in Spain.

    Choose the right location

Spain has a lot to offer in terms of locations with Andalusia, Galicia, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Mediterranean coast and much more. Each region has its own rich cultural heritage accompanied by beautiful landscapes, a varied gastronomy and a vibrant culture. Some of the less touristic areas are worth investigating as they will be cheaper but still offer great facilities and activities. They are also likely to be less crowded.

    Explore the different accommodation options

There are a few websites offering cheaper alternatives to overpriced hotels and resorts. At www.bungalowsclub.com, we specialize in log cabins and charming accommodation throughout Spain. We have more than 200 options on offer, located by the seaside or in the countryside. From log cabins with hot tubs, tree-houses in the forest, to spa retreats or even mobile homes for budget travelers…. Some of the options are self-catering, some have restaurants on site, a lot of them cater for children with great play areas and entertainment. Most of them are located near small villages and are perfect to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture. Spain being an outdoorsy country, they are plenty of activities on offer from hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing…that will keep the whole family entertained.

Travel options to get you to your dream destination on a budget

    Flying to Spain
The most common mean of transport to get to Spain is by plane. There are plenty of low-cost routes and companies, selling plane tickets at a very reasonable price. Most of the airports are located next to popular cities such as Girone, Jerez, Almeria, Ibiza, Castellon. But Spain being very popular, it is advisable to book your ticket as soon as possible if you decide to travel by plane. Check for any hidden fees, extra luggage and printing of your boarding pass as they can all add up.
    Driving to Spain
Driving to Spain is probably one of the best way to get to see the country. You can easily book a ferry to France or to northern Spain. If you like driving, it is a great option. The motorways are in a very good condition with pit stops all the way. Taking a ferry to France and driving down to Spain is probably easier done without children as it is still a long drive, but it is nevertheless the best way to discover two countries in one trip. The ferry to Spain is an overnight ferry that will feel like a mini-cruise. But remember keep right when you get off the boat.
Or taking the bus to Spain…
Coach holidays to Spain are another way to save money. The coach tour operators have most of the time pick up points next to your location and will organise the travel route and accommodation on your behalf. They negociate rates with hotel or self-catering accommodation. They are a great option if you decide to travel on your own as you will have some company along the way.

    Other ways to save money

Book a group holiday with Friends
This is a great way to save money and spend some quality time with people that you maybe haven’t seen for a while. You can find some great villas that can accommodate a big party. The price is cheaper because you are all sharing and this can give you the opportunity to stay in a great location that you wouldn’t be able to afford on your own. The only advice to take is to be clear at the start of the holiday on how money will be spent on food, and of course, have a cleaning rota…
    Book the right dates
The last two weeks of the summer tend to be cheaper as all the tourists are heading back home. The only drawback would be to keep the children entertained for the first part of their holiday, and that could come at a price between the visits to the entertainment parks, shopping centres or play dates with friends. But if you are still keen to wait patiently, then booking your flight to leave on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is usually cheaper.
Get your euros at the right time
Talk to your bank or keep an eye on the currency market to see when the best time to change your Pounds for Euros is. And shop around as the currency shops can be competitive and might be able to offer you a good exchange rate.

Visit the www.bungalowsclub.com website to see their special offers. We often have deals on with a great choice of locations for an affordable holiday in Spain.
